Turk Carroll:
Turk Carroll was raised on his family's Quarter Horse Ranch, and started his early career as a jockey and racing Quarter Horse trainer. He also trained standardbred harness horses for the racetrack. With this background, Turk brings to the Arabian world a unique breadth or experience and skills. Drawn to the beauty and the intelligence of the Arabian horse, Turk has been training and showing horses for Crystal Castle since 1992. He trains and shows the Crystal Castle Arabians in English (both Saddle Seat and Hunt Seat), Halter, Harness, and his all time favorite, Western!
His calm and easygoing way with horses produces animals that not only perform, but enjoy the process. The visible enjoyment and affinity of this man for the horses, and the obvious relaxed and responsive manner of the horses is notable, and frequently commented on by observers. One professional trainer stated at a recent horse show: “Turk is the one I want to have train my own personal horse—his horses love working for him!” In addition to training the Crystal Castle Arabian horses, Turk does accept outside horses for training and showing.
With respect to the training process, Turk and Lyn see that all CCA foals are “imprinted” at birth and are handled daily. Preferring the “natural” approach to horse training which accommodates to the individual needs and temperament of each horse, Turk’s approach is to first gain the horse’s trust and respect, and then work at the horse’s pace. He doesn’t believe in “pushing” horses, or using “gimmicks” to gain quick results, but rather to build on the horse’s natural abilities, style, and rate of learning.
